Kelly Hallett of Mallorytown entered the CFL Fan of the Year contest hoping for some tickets and boots—never expecting to win. But after being selected by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as their finalist, she used the spotlight to share her story of kidney donation.
In May 2024, Hallett donated her kidney through Kingston Health Sciences Centre’s Living Kidney Donor program. Her husband, Keith, needed a transplant due to diabetes, but they later learned her kidney wasn’t a match. She instead joined the national Kidney Paired Donation program, allowing both her and Keith to participate in a donor swap.
Keith received his kidney in April; Hallett donated hers in May. Both organs traveled via police escort between Kingston and Toronto. Now crowned CFL Fan of the Year, Hallett hopes her story inspires others to consider living donation.
Come visit and learn more about her story, find out how you can help expand the transplant program in Kingston, and how you can register as an organ and tissue donor.
